THE JOURNAL

4th of July • Fireworks and Epic Fails

Being honest, this blog post is a tad behind schedule… It was supposed to go up on Friday, but we didn’t get a chance to finish up the video to go along with it and when Monday rolled around, it still wasn’t quite done yet… So it just got pushed around. And now I’m hitting publish without the video because honestly, we’ve just been too busy. But hopefully SOON we will be sharing that video!! 🙂

The Saturday before the 4th of July, we spent the day playing frisbee golf and playing at Rigby Lake with Logan’s family!! We love going to Rigby Lake the Saturday before the 4th for their little firework show and all the food stands at the lake! At that firework show, they handed out glasses to give a new look and affect to the fireworks- those were pretty cool (watch for that in our video!). I haven’t ever seen anyone do anything like that, so way to go Rigby, you did something pretty cool… Haha!! Rigby is where Logan grew up and we grew up 15 minutes apart, so I always have to throw in a little jab here and there. But you could tell when everyone was wearing their glasses because everyone would “ooohhh and ahhh” at the same time. It was pretty awesome!! Getting out of the parking lot took a long time, but having those moments of watching the fireworks together and then just sitting together with no where to really go and all the time in the world to wait, made the perfect ending to that day.

On the 4th of July, we woke up REALLY early (3:30am) to go to the hot air balloon festival in Driggs, Idaho. Logan knew that I’ve wanted to go and watch them for a few years now and we finally were going to make it happen. A friend of mine had gone the Saturday before the 4th and had such incredible images from it that I couldn’t wait to go and see all of these hot air balloons go up at sunrise. Because it was so early, I mentioned how I really hoped it was worth it, but quickly dismissed it because Anna’s pictures were amazing and everything I hoped it would be, so of course it was going to be amazing! We had talked our friends, Adam and Taylor (past bride and groom) to wakeup early and come with us. Riding all together laughing and talking made the early drive way better! As we got there, we parked in the right spot to not have to pay to park and we made it on time!! I’m so impressed with us, because that was really early- haha! When we walked into the park, there was a hot air balloon that you could walk into and that was really fun! But I was stoked and had butterflies in my stomach because I was so excited to watch the balloons go up. After we had already been there for 35 minutes, no hot air balloons had gone up, which seemed a little odd… Finally we were told that no balloons would be going up that day….. epic fail and my heart broke a little. So we started to drive back home and we made some stops along the way to make it more of an adventure and a little less disheartening.

When we got home from all the fun, Logan and I took a good nap to recover from waking up so early and to gain some energy to be able to play spikeball the rest of the afternoon! Plus, no one wants to fall asleep during the firework show at the Idaho Falls greenbelt- that may or may not have happened to me once… We watched the fireworks with my family, and our nephew Kaden loved them! During the show he had WAY too much energy and couldn’t decide where he wanted to sit, so he would bounce from person to person throughout the whole show!

Even though the hot air balloons did not go as planned and I was really disappointed by that, our day was perfect just because we had the chance to laugh, snuggle, and spend all day together. Cliché, I know, but it’s so true.
