Learning to Teach

A few months ago I received an email from one of my past brides that we had loved. Katelyn was asking a few questions about shooting a wedding because one of her best friends wanted her to shoot their wedding. She was nervous, but so excited!! I could not have been more excited to hear that and to answer all of her questions. It gave me a chance to help someone else, and after all the help and support I have been given, I knew that I could give her help too! We emailed back and forth about gear, lighting, timelines, etc., and then it finally came up when the wedding would be. We had one weekend open before our crazy wedding season kicked off and it just so happened to be the same weekend as the wedding. I mentioned to Katelyn that when I shot my first wedding, I had a photographer friend come with me to help me be calm and help me focus, because of that Logan and I wanted to go help her get her feet under her with this wedding. Plus, we really wanted to see these two again and see how they were doing- it had been way too long since we had seen them!

When Logan and I got there, we were in love with the mountains and all of the scenery. It was incredible! Katelyn and I set off to get some getting ready images and it was so fun to work through a timeline and a wedding day with another photographer. We shot the details, the dress, putting on the dress, etc. When the time for the first look came, we had such a fun set up and perfect cloud coverage. During the day, we learned that I am absolutely terrified of bees, when one literally attacked me. We all took cover as a HUGE rain storm came in, and we laughed together at how ridiculous we looked running out in the rain to get different shots. But the best part of the day was watching Katelyn handle all the different situations, and to see her take off. We can’t wait to see where she takes this! Thank you so much for letting me help and be part of this first wedding for you. It has given me a new confidence and given me new ideas and goals! Some of those will be coming to the blog very soon!
