Finding Direction to Accomplish Your Goals

This post isn’t wrapped up with a big shiny wedding giveaway like Monday’s post, but it is going to share how we are setting the course for our the year. It’s going to share how we are finding a push to reach our goals in a new way. Early in January, we shared a how we reflected on last year and then set our goals for the year. If you haven’t taken time to look back at how things went in your lives and business last year, take some time and write out what worked and didn’t work! It helps set you up for good goal setting. Our goals are still hanging up in our office on those big poster boards, giving us a clear vision for things we want to achieve. But, I set a lot of goals this year, probably too many. I don’t want to get discouraged or feel like I can’t achieve them all and I find something that really has given me a push forward with those goals!

A couple weeks ago, I was preparing for our January Tuesday Together meeting about goals and reseting for the year and the PDF guide talked about choosing a word or phrase that defines your year and gives you a direction or purpose. At first I was really intimidated by the thought and wasn’t planning on doing it. There’s a lot of words out there and I really want to find a word that really felt powerful and would sink deep for me. I wasn’t sure I was going to figure one out that really fit until I was staring at the goals I set and wondering how I could finish all 25 of them- it’s a lot I know. These goals will take time, growth, patience, and some changes…

As we sat facing each other in our office, Logan sweetly rubbing my feet, I shared with him about the word or power phrase idea. And I was really hoping we would each come up with a word or phrase. I shared my word with him, but he wanted a little bit more time to think on it. Here’s the words- CONSISTENT and INTENTIONAL. We each came up with one of those words. Now who said what? Any guesses?

While I was looking over those goals of mine, I realized I needed time. More time. Time I didn’t feel like I had. I also wanted things that were going to require more from me that I had given in the past. And I realized that to do all of those things I needed to be something… I needed to be…. intentional. The definition of intentional is done on purpose or deliberate. Because each thing on my goal list is important to me, I need to do the things I do with a purpose, not just because I feel like it’s a good idea or because everyone else is doing it a certain way. Hopefully doing it with a purpose helps me focus and get it done in a way that means something to me and helps me save time instead of scrolling through a Facebook or Instagram feed mindlessly. I need to have a reason to do things and then go forward with a purpose for it. Another big one for me with my goals is to strengthen and cultivate relationships with friends, family, and those in the industry. That means making greater efforts in having more meaningful conversations and really listening. I want to fill my life with purposeful things- things that really matter!!

Logan chose consistency for a few reasons; one of those reasons is because this is his final year of school!! (Hallelujah!) He wants to push himself and put forth consistent efforts in his school work to get those grades he knows he can get. He also wants to be consistent in helping me around the house, like cleaning the bathroom because I HATE it so much!! 🙂 Along with consistency, Logan wants to consistently be trying and learning new things with video and business things. I want put too many words in his mouth and speak for him, but his goals align perfectly with being consistent in the business, school, with us, and everything else.

This is a random post, right?! Wrong- there is a purpose for it! See I’m focusing on this intentional stuff! At our Tuesdays Together, everyone came up with a word to help them shape their year, decisions, and mindset. Now it’s up to you! I want you to get your goals and really feel a purpose for the year. Take a couple of days to think over your goals and what you’d like to accomplish. Find a word that is going to go along with those goals and will help you focus on your goals. Then write it in all caps somewhere you see it every day. And now tell me, what’s your word?!
