Logan and I went on a walk last night because I couldn’t quite feel settled on how to blog about this trip and Logan wanted to hatch one of his Pokemon eggs. In regards to my thoughts about this post, I went back on forth on doing a monologue about our entire trip, a brief overview, random memories, or just how the trip has affected us and made us feel. As we started talking about the trip and all the things we did, our favorite memories, what we learned, etc., I knew that no one would want to hear a monologue about it because we did A LOT of stuff and a lot of walking. No one really wants to read about everything we saw in DC, NYC or Maryland. A brief overview just wasn’t enough to really share our trip, so I decided on favorite memories, lessons learned, and how we felt about it all.
For those of you who don’t know, we went to the east coast to shoot a promo video for our friend Meghan!! We are really excited about how everything went with that, but won’t be sharing anything more about it until it is all done!! But that is what took us out there and we are so grateful for Meghan and Adam’s hospitality, love, and friendship while we took over their extra room in the house. When I say take over, I literally mean take over, because when you have to take 4 checked bags, 1 carry on, and 2 personal items to get everything you need across the country, it takes up a lot of space! We really loved our time with Meghan, Adam, and their boys. We felt right at home with them. Plus, Meghan is just one of my people. She gets me and is always open, honest, vulnerable, and real with me. You all need a Meghan in your life, trust me. She brings out the best in me, even though I get sarcastic and silly with her, I always am so much better because of her influence.
Like I said, we crammed a lot into a little amount of time, but some of our very best friends recently moved to Maryland and as luck would have it, they live 15 minutes away from Meghan! We did do some sightseeing, but most importantly we just spent time with them. We have missed these two and loved being able to be in their presence, chat, and laugh with them again. We also may have started to make plans for our next friends trip because our trip earlier this year to Disneyland with them was soo good! And of all the times of the year to be out there, our friends the Excell’s (who also live in Idaho) were staying with Kenon and Marissa on some of the days we were there. It was a party!!! The first lesson we learned came up because of Kenon, Marissa, Meghan and Adam. After being around all of these guys, we learned and were reminded how important the people we surround ourselves with are and just how important it is to have people who are “your people” even thousands of miles apart. We know that whenever we need something that these are the people who will show up for us.
The second lesson we I learned came from losing my metro card in NYC, after just loading $11 on it…. I would have said $10 but Logan would have corrected me and said it was $11. We had just rode the subway from Brooklyn to Central Park and I had my metro card in my hand, but I think I left it sitting on the seat I had been sitting on when we stood up to get off at our stop. As soon as the doors to closed and left us standing on the platform, I knew it was gone. I checked, rechecked, and checked again in my pockets, wallet, and our bag, but it was gone. That caused me to get into my grumpy fast walk mode. I was lost in thoughts of being so frustrated at myself for losing that card after just loading it with money that I didn’t realize Logan couldn’t keep up with my walking. He jogged to catch up to me, took my hand, and pulled me to slow down. He told me I had my grumpy walk going and that he couldn’t keep up with me and then I explained how I wasn’t frustrated at him, just myself for losing the card. And that’s when he said, “Michelle there was only like $8.75 left on it anyways.” I looked at him with big eyes and said, “$8.75 would have been enough for the rest of our time here (for my card- Logan had his own). Now we have to get another card.” He laughed at me and let me know that we would lose more than $8 in our lives and that I needed to just breathe. It was not the end our trip to lose $8. Sometimes I get really hung up on the little things like that, but I need to step back and look at the overall picture, and probably eat some food because I was a little hangry at that moment too…. Logan really does bring out the best in me and I will never understand how I got so lucky to have him by my side even when I’m grumpy walking.
The last lesson I wanted to share is that for as many incredible places we have seen and been too, it wouldn’t have been the same without Logan by my side through it all. These memories and moments have really been worth it because I didn’t experience it alone. Experiencing and adventuring through life with Logan is the best and I wouldn’t trade our time together for anything. I know being away from home and only having each other for most of our sightseeing and doing, made us rely on each other and that has really added to our marriage and relationship!! Our favorite thing from the trip was the Yankees game that we were able to go to at Yankee Stadium. We both loved it for different reasons- Logan grew up cheering for and watching the Yankees with his dad. I loved it because I got an ice cream cone with sprinkles on it (two of my favorite things) and because I knew how important and special this game was for Logan. Being able to be a part of something that was so “big” for him made that moment on the trip the very best. Plus, we got free shirts, yummy hot dogs, and the Yankees won!!
Enjoy our video and pictures from our east coast trip!!
