THE JOURNAL

Our First Published Feature

Earlier this year I was feeling discouraged because I was watching all these photographers be featured on this wedding blog and that magazine. It seemed like I didn’t even have enough time to clean the house and make dinner after working and shooting, let alone submit sessions to be published. Images needed to be selected, resized, and I didn’t believe my images were good enough anymore. Life just felt crazy. I’m a sharer; I like to tell Logan everything on my heart and mind- aka, I talk a lot. When I expressed these feelings of not being published and questioning if I was even good enough, he assured me I was and that it was OK to try to submit a session. During our first styled shoot on our own, I knew that I wanted to try to submit it. The courage I had in wanting to get it featured quickly went away. It took me months to submit these images, until one day I told myself that the worst thing they can say is no. I prepped my heart for the no emails to come in and steeled my nerves against feeling like a failure. I created an account on Two Bright Lights, read the details of a good submission, and picked out the best images from our shoot. A few days after submitting the session, I got an email from The Rocky Mountain Bride saying that they were going to feature my session. I was floored, ecstatic, and frustrated that I took so long to submit my session. That feature happened last Monday!!

For any photographers thinking that they can’t submit because their work isn’t good enough, brace yourself, muster up some courage, and hit submit. The worst anyone can say is no and that does NOT mean your images aren’t beautiful. Sign up for Two Bright Lights and submit a session during your free trial!! You can sit and wallow (like I was) that you aren’t getting published because you don’t have time or can’t do it OR you can make time to submit your best session and just try!! In the words of Natalie Franke, “You’ll never get published if you never submit.”
