Nathan + Devanie Surprise Proposal Engagement Session

When Devanie first messaged me about her engagement session, I was feeling excited because I’d worked with her family before and loved them. Then just a day later, I get a call from our past bride and her sister, Kaelie. Kaelie was letting me in on a little secret, Devanie was going to be proposed to and Nathan wanted me there to photograph it all. She told me Nathan would be calling me soon and when Nathan and I talked, he had a plan and was so excited to propose to Devanie.

Nathan had done all the hard work and had Devanie believing that the ring was still a few weeks out and the store couldn’t get it any sooner. He had also told her that he had already been in touch with me and scheduled engagements on my only available day before he was leaving out of town. Devanie was a little disappointed that we wouldn’t have her ring to photograph during the engagements, but I just reassured her that we would be aware of her left hand and not let it be seen without a ring in the images. She believed me and Nathan and I finalized that plan. The shoot started off how any engagement session would start and Devanie had no clue what was coming. We decided on the keyword about the “choo-choo train” pose (yes, I’ve named some of our poses ridiculous names!). That meant that he needed to snag the ring from Devanie’s sister who came with to “help with hair.” I had Devanie look back to him in the pose and then to look forward and when she looked forward, Nathan was going to get down on one knee. As her hand slipped from his and she turned to see why he stopped and saw him on his knee, asking her to be his wife, the shock was clearly visible on her face.

Nathan had told me that Devanie really wanted someone to photograph the proposal and he wanted her to be able to be all ready to go. She had really planned their entire proposal! How sweet is that?! After they had their moments of hugging it out and all the shock effect wore off, we finished up their engagements and it was beautiful!!!
