This is a post I have been looking forward to sharing since the beginning of January!! When Logan and I sat down and made goals together, we also picked a word for the year that we could focus on as a couple. We picked the word happiness. That word already sums up Logan pretty well, he’s one of the happiest and most optimistic people I know, but we wanted to make sure that we as a couple were focusing on the positive things in our lives. We wanted our marriage, relationship and home to be filled with happiness. Plus, when our little man makes his debut, we want him to come to parents who radiate happiness and help him feel happy too!
Last year as I scrolled through Pinterest, I saw this little thing about a happiness jar. I clicked through and read the article and knew I would love to do it at some point in my life. The idea of the happiness jar is to put it somewhere you will see it every day. At the end of each day, Logan and I will take the time to write down something happy or positive about the day. We’ve been doing this every day since the beginning of the year and already I can tell that it’s easier every day to fill up the jar with happy thoughts. For us, we have made this simple thing part of our nightly routine before bed! Of course we are not perfect and sometimes fall asleep early or forget, but we always make up for it the next day. My outlook is brighter and I’m more focused on the positive things. We think that we could all use a little more happiness in our lives and if you want to be able to spend just a couple minutes reconnecting with your spouse at the end of the day, this is a great way for you to see the things that made a positive impact on each other’s lives. There are some days that hearing what made Logan happy has helped me see what is important to him and what I can do to help him be happy! I have also read about this being adapted for families! After dinner, each child and the parents write something down and put it in the jar!! The last thing that I really love about this jar is that I see it every day. Not every day is filled with sunshine and rainbows of happiness and seeing this jar, filled with papers reminds me that there is good in every day. If I’m feeling sad, I can start pulling out these little papers and remember all these memories that have filled our lives with happiness!! We hope you join us and start your own happiness jar with your spouse or family!
What you need to start a happiness jar-
A jar 🙂 We used this jar at our wedding reception and it’s an awesome size- it’s from Walmart
Bright colored paper because it makes the jar feel even happier
A desire to focus on the good things in life and make it a habit
