Cancer + Life Update

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted an update on my Dad’s cancer or really on our life. This is Logan’s last semester and honestly, it has been pretty tough on me. I really enjoy spending time with, talking to, and seeing Logan, and this semester just isn’t really conducive for that. Logan leaves Monday moring and then stays in Rexburg or Rigby to be able to use better internet (my parents internet situation is ROUGH, really, really ROUGH) and to not have to drive as far. That means that I stay at home in Shelley working and might not see Logan until Wednesday or Thursday depending on when I can go up to see him or when he can finally find some space between projects and assignments to come home. With this being Logan’s last semester, he has a lot of big group projects, a senior project- he’s taking over The Idaho Bride for me, and he’s one of the photographers for the campus newspaper. That’s been keeping him super busy!! But this past weekend, we were able to spend time on Friday night watching Kung Fu Panda 3 and on Saturday we went to Chick-Fil-A for a date night dinner!! That’s part of the reason why I’m a few days late posting, but I wanted to spend as much time as possible with him!! So I worked really hard on everything but the blog this weekend! Oops!!

Two weekends ago, we both spent time in Provo semi-together! I went down on Thursday to location scout for a session and celebrate my nephew Kaden’s second birthday while my parents were also down there visiting. On Friday, Logan’s family all went to Frightmares, while I second shoot a wedding with Brooke Bakken.. I seriously laughed the whole day with that lady!! She’s awesome!! That Saturday we headed to Lehi to see the Museum of Natural Curiosity and then I headed to an engagement session. That night we all went to dinner together with Logan’s family to a hibachi grill. We ended the night with one of our past couples, Taylor and Brianna, getting ice cream!! So life has been busy and we haven’t seen a ton of each other, but when we have seen each other, we’ve talked (more like I talked a lot and Logan listened a lot, he’s so good to me), laughed, and been present. We’ve spent time together without our phones and really just enjoyed each moment! If nothing else, this semester is teaching me to enjoy all the moments and to be fully present and intentional with my time.

An update on my Dad’s cancer- well it still sucks just like our shirts say. But we are still moving forward. Surgery went well and they were able to get 19 lymph nodes out. 6 of those lymph nodes were had cancer, so there are still 5 (I think that’s right) left. Dad is now doing the hard chemo to try and kill those other lymph nodes. He goes to chemo every other week, and this chemo should not make him lose his hair. Dad just had chemo round 3 this past week, so we have 7 more to go!! He should finish up in February!! With this chemo treatment, he cannot eat or drink anything cold, it all has to be hot or room tempature. I think that’s been one of the hardest things. We have done scans of the rest of his body to make sure the cancer hasn’t spread and they all came back clean. His cancer is 69% cureable, so there is a 31% chance that it will come back. I really wish it was 70%, that just sounds better,  but we know the odds are still really great!! We are so grateful for that! Dad is still stubborn, not sure if that will ever change!! But he is also the hardest working person I’ve ever known. He is tough and even though some days are hard, he keeps on going!! It’s pretty incredible.

It was fun to be able to be in Provo with my parents to celebrate Kaden’s birthday. The grandkids sure love Grammy Lu and Papa!! Kaden loved fixing the car with Papa, I’m sure he was a big help for Papa. And Grammy Lu spent her time snuggling and Danny boy and spoiling Kaden with M&M’s every time he asked for one more.

If you want to stay up to date and follow along with our “real life” daily happenings, you can follow my personal Instagram account. I won’t promise that it’s a pretty feed, but I can promise to keep you laughing and updated on life as it really is! That’s also where I share most of the cancer and chemo updates.
